III INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION 

„Chopin at Wawel”

Kraków, 7 – 11 July 2021

 

 REGULATION OF THE COMPETITION

I

1. III International Piano Competition „Chopin at Wawel” organized by Artistic Association “Porta Musicae” and Fryderyk Chopin Secondary Music School in Kraków will take place in 7-11 of July 2021.

2. Competition auditions are open for public and will proceed in four age limit groups. Competition auditions of the III Group will proceed in two stages. Competition auditions of the IV Group will proceed in three stages.

II

For the Competition can apply young pianists assigned in following groups because of the age of participant:

I group – born after 2007

II group – born in years 2005 - 2007

III group –  born in years 2002 - 2004

IV group - born in years 1994 - 2001

III

1. Application form for the Competition (form is available on the website of the Competition www.chopinpodwawelem.com and on the website of the Fryderyk Chopin Secondary Music School in Kraków www.szkolamuzyczna.os.pl) should be send till 31st of May 2021 to:

with inscription „Chopin pod Wawelem”.

The following attachments should be send with application form:

a) copy of document showing date of the birth

b) short CV

c) recomendatiion letter written by principal or the chef of the piano department of the scholl of participant

d) proof of payment the application fee.

in the title of payment write: donation for statutory purposes Chopin pod Wawelem and the name of participant.

 

All the candidates, who in the day of beginning of the Competition are under 18 years old should add letter from one of the parents/guardians about their agree for participation in the Competition.

2. Application form sended after 31st of May 2021 will not be accepted (decide the date of post stamp).

3. Participant will be informed (by phone or by e-mail) about acceptance for the Competition till 10th of May 2021. Till 15th of June 2021 the Competition Office will published on the webside the date and time of Competition Audition.

4. In case of resignation the application fee will be not returned.

5. It is possible to send application form with all necessary attachments to e-mail of the Competition: chopinatwawel@gmail.com or chopinatwawel@hotmail.com (for Participants from China)

IV

1. The participants are obliged to arrive to the Competition Office for registration in appointed deadline.

V

1. Competition auditions will be in alphabethical order beginned from the drawn letter and substantially this order will be kept durring all the Competition Auditions.

2. To participate the second stage of III and IV Group will be allowed substantially not more then 6 participants. To participate the third stage of the IV Group will be allowed substantially not more then 3 participants.

3. Because of the organisation and programm matters the Competition Office keep the right to change the Competition Auditions order.

 

VI

Program must be performed from memory.

 

Group I

  • one polonaise from following:                                                                       

Polonaise G minor (WN 2)

Polonaise B-flat major (WN 1)

Polonaise A-flat major (WN 3)

  • one or more composition of Fryderyk Chopin. Full time of perfomance max. 12 minutes

 

Group II

  • one nocturne or one of the following etude: 

Etude E major op. 10 no. 3

Etude E-flat minor op. 10 no. 6

Etude C-sharp minor op. 25 no. 7

  • one etude except the following:

E major op. 10 no. 3, E-flat minor op. 10 no. 6, C-sharp minor op. 25 no. 7

• one impromptu or one polonaise except three “Youthful Polonaises” (G-minor WN 2, B-flat major WN 1, A-flat major WN 3) and op. 22, op. 44, op. 53 and op. 61 or one variations or one rondo.

 

Group III

Stage I

  • one etude from following: 

C major op. 10 no. 1

A minor op. 10 no. 2

C-sharp minor op. 10 no. 4

G-flat major op. 10 no. 5

C major op. 10 no. 7 

F major op. 10 no. 8

A-flat major op. 10 no. 10

E-flat major op. 10 no. 11

C minor op. 10 no. 12

A minor op. 25 no. 4

E minor op. 25 no. 5

G-sharp minor op. 25 no. 6

B minor op. 25 no. 10

A minor op. 25 no. 11

  • two mazurkas choosen from one of following opus: 17, 24, 30, 33, 41, 50, 56, 59 

In opus 33 and 41 obligatory are original numbers:

op. 33: G-sharp minor no. 1, C major no. 2, D major no. 3, B minor no. 4

op. 41: E minor no. 1, B major no. 2, A-flat major no. 3, C-sharp minor no. 4

  • one nocturne or one of the following etude: 

Etude E major op. 10 no. 3

Etude E-flat minor op. 10 no. 6

Etude C-sharp minor op. 25 no. 7

 

Stage II

 

  • one of the following pieces: 

Ballade G minor op. 23

Ballade F major op. 38

Ballade A-flat major op. 47

Ballade F minor op. 52

Scherzo B minor op. 20

Scherzo B-flat minor op. 31

Scherzo C-sharp minor op. 39

Scherzo E major op. 54

Barcarole F-sharp major op. 60 

Fantasie F minor op. 49

Polonaise F-sharp minor op. 44

Polonaise A-flat major op. 53

Polonaise - Fantasie A-flat major op. 61

  • one or more compositions of Fryderyk Chopin. Full time of perfomance 20-22 minutes

 

Group IV 

Stage I

  • One group of 6 following Preludes op. 28 from no. 7 A major, for example: 7-12, 8-13, 9-14, 10-15 etc.
  • Obligatory piece - Impromptu F-sharp major op. 36
  • One or more compositions of Fryderyk Chopin. Maximum full time of perfomance 25 minutes

 

Stage II

Recital maximum full time of performance 45 minutes of F. Chopin pieces choosen from following:

Ballade G minor op. 23

Ballade F major op. 38

Ballade A-flat major op. 47

Ballade F minor op. 52

Scherzo B minor op. 20

Scherzo B-flat minor op. 31

Scherzo C-sharp minor op. 39

Scherzo E major op. 54

Barcarole F-sharp major op. 60 

Fantasie F minor op. 49

Andante Spianato and Polonaize E-flat major op. 22

Polonaise F-sharp minor op. 44

Polonaise A-flat major op. 53

Polonaise - Fantasie A-flat major op. 61

Waltzes

Nocturnes: op. 9 no. 3, op. 48, op. 55 no. 2, op. 62

 

Stage III (final)

One Sonata

C minor op. 4,

or B-flat minor op. 35,

or B minor op. 58

  • One full opus of Mazurkas

 

Pieces can not be repeated in any stages.

Recommended edition is Polish National Edition.

 

VII

1. Director of the Competition invite Chairman and Members of Jury. If necessary the Director of the Competition can make changes of members of the Jury.

2. Composition of Jury will be announced public before Competition.

3. Jury rates performance of participants and work according the Regulation of the Competition approved by Director of the Competition.

VIII

1. During the Competition Fryderyk Chopin Secondary Music School in Kraków will offer for the participant practise rooms.

2. The acustic reharsal before audition in concert hall will be assured for all the Participants. date of reharsal will be announced together with information about practise room not later then 15th of June 2021.

3. Participants of the III and IV Group who passed to the II Stage will have oportunity to have second reharsal in the concert hall. Participants of the IV Group who passed to the III Stage (Final) will have oportunity to have third reharsal in the concert hall.

IX

1. The list of Prizewinners will be approved by director of the Competition based on the decision of Jury.

2. There will be prizes and distinctions in every groups.

3. The list of Prizewinners including the prizes will be annouced public.

4. Prizewinners of the First Prize of previous edition of the Competition can not participate in the same age Group.

1. Jury has right to change the system of prizes or not to aword some of them. However given prizes can not be lower or higher then as they were announced in Regulation of The Competition, and the amount designated for the prizes can not be rised.

2. Decisions of Jury are irrevocable and unchallengeable.

XI

1. Prizewinners are obliged to take part in the winners concert at the end of the Competition for free. The winners concert will be held in 11th of July 2021. Unjustified absence on winners concert will mean resignation of award.

2. Program of the winners concert will be fixed by Chairman of Jury in consultation with the performers.

XII

Participants are obliged to provide permits for Competition Office for free use of their artistic performances during competition and also give the Competition Office dispose the rights for them in following fields of exploitations:

– recording and reproduction: production by any technique copies of performances, including magnetic and digital recording technology

– disseminating: broadcasting and re-broadcasting and reproduction to the public performances in such a way that eweryone has access in chosen by themselves time and place.

XIII

In all organizational matters not belonged to the competence of Jury, Director of the Competition has the right to make decisions, which are irrevocable and not amenable.
